To solve these problems you need to use the quadratic formula which is listed below. 

[tex] \frac{-b +/- \sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac } }{2a} [/tex]

So, if you take #2. 

The [tex] x^{2} [/tex] has a 1 in front of it. The x has a -3 in front of it. The last number is also -3. So:

a = 1
b = -3
c = -3

Then you can plug all of these into the equation and simplify. Which gives you:

[tex] \frac{3 -/+ \sqrt{21} }{2} [/tex]
