At the school store, pencils and pens are sold. For every 3 pens sold there are 7 pencils sold.

If 150 of these two items are sold, how many will be pencils?

to solve this problem you would add 3 and 7 together to get 10. Next you would divide 150 by 10 to get 15. After you have done that you would multiply 7 by 15 to get 105. There will be 105 pencils sold.
