For instance, the 11-kilogram child is having seizures. The physician orders Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg intravenously. To compute for the actual dose, we use the formula mg/kg/dose (in some instances, it is mg/kg/day). 

The equation is:
[tex] \frac{0.2mg}{kg} x 11kg = 2.2 mg[/tex]

22 mg of Midazolam should be given. In reality, there should also be the conversion from solid units (mg, g) to liquid (mL) using a specific concentration because intravenous drugs are usually in liquid form.
