Poe was born in Boston, Ma, during January 9th 1809. He lost his mother,Elizabeth Poe at a young age. This brought such sorrow to young Poe. Eventually, one thing led to another and Poe was placed in a foster family but ended up losing his foster mother as well. Lastly Poe became close to his friends mother... which died. That being said Poe became depressed and his pain influenced most of his writings.
