Step #1):  Subtract  1  from each side of the equation.

Step #2):  Divide each side of the new equation by  3 .

Step #3):  Step quickly to one side, to avoid getting hurt
                 as the solution comes flying off the page at you. 

3x+1=3 cross off the 1
-1 -1
3x 2 put 3 on the bottom of 3x and 2. cross off 3 and now you x alone.now you have 2/3.

x=0.66
