The lag in realizing that a macroeconomic problem exists is called the recognition lag.

Recognition lag is defined as the time lag between when the actual economic shock occurs and when it is recognized by economists, central bankers and the government.
Recognition lag can be days, weeks or even months depending on how severe the economic shock is.
