1 1/4 can be turned to 1.25

If 1.25 cups of sugar make 20 cookies, then how many cups of sugar will be needed to make 12 cookies?

Make a proportion.

1.25 / 20 = x / 12

Cross multiply

(1.25)(12) = 20x

15 = 20x

Divide both sides by 20

0.75 = x

0.75 cups of sugar are needed to make 12 cookies.

OR

3/4 cups of sugar are needed to make 12 cookies.
