The Collegian of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan is considered to be the oldest college newspaper in that state. In 1878 the local paper, the Hillsdale Herald was first published. In 1893, the Hillsdale College administration started the Collegian as rival paper to the Herald. Later, the two papers combined to become the Herald-Collegian, although today it is simply known as the Collegian.
