You subtract the least number in a set of numbers from the greatest.

so if I had 4, 5, 8, 10, and 12, I would do 12-4

Answer:

If the numbers in the data set aren't arranged from least to greatest, make sure to arrange them.

So basically, you have to subtract the Highest number in the number list/data set from the Lowest value of the data set.
