A cognate is "abandon" in English, "abandonar" in Spanish

The answer is "cognate". Ex: Chocolate and chocolate. Spelled the same, both nouns mean the same thing. English word is pronounced "chock-lit", and Spanish word is pronounced "chock-o-lat-tay". Therefore this word is a cognate!
