What is tone in writing? an author's word choice inverted syntax in poetry the author's attitude deliberate grammatical errors?

The tone in writing is the attitude of the writer toward a subject or an audience. But...it can be conveyed through the choice of words or viewpoint of the writer....so I am not sure if it is " authors attitude " of " authors word choice "....I am leaning towards attitude...
