Why did the U.S. government see Fidel Castro as a threat to national security?

I think it was because there was soviet missiles In Cuba and Cuba isn’t far from Florida and the US saw that if Castro were to nuke us they would be able to reach major cities including DC from where they were. (I think though I’m not completely sure)
