[tex]4x+4y=0[/tex]
[tex]2x+y=-2[/tex]

We'll use [tex]2x+y=-2[/tex]⇒[tex]y=-2x-2[/tex]

Plug into the other formula:
[tex]4x+4(-2x-2)=0[/tex]
⇒[tex]4x-8x-8=0[/tex]
⇒[tex]-4x-8=0[/tex]
⇒[tex]-4x=8[/tex]
⇒[tex]x=-2[/tex]

Plug [tex]x[/tex] in to get [tex]y[/tex]:
[tex]y=-2(-2)-2[/tex]
⇒[tex]y=4-2[/tex]
⇒[tex]y=2[/tex]

So our solution is [tex]x=-2[/tex], [tex]y=2[/tex]
