You find the square root of the number and then finish the equation.  For example: √9 + 10 = √16 + 9  Would be equal, because the square root of 9 would be 3 and 3 + 10 = 13.  The square root of 16 would be 4, and 4 + 9 would be 13.  Therefore 13 = 13.  Hope this helped.
