What happens when you move to the left of a decimal point?

If you move left of a decimal point, that means that the number is decreasing like for example:
45.89 to a decimal point - 4.589

When you move a decimal point to the left [tex]n[/tex] times, the number becomes [tex]10^n[/tex] times smaller.
