The Suez Canal is an artificial waterway that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean through the Red Sea. This is quite important as it allowed European faster travel to the Indian Ocean where majority of the luxury goods are traded. Before the construction of the Suez Canal, Europeans had to sail along the coast of Africa to reach India.
