The value of the y-coordinate is 2

Solution:

The system of equations given are:

x + 2y = 9 ------ eqn 1

x - y = 3 ------ eqn 2

To find: value of y - coordinate

We can solve the above system of equations by substitution method

From eqn 2,

x = 3 + y ------ eqn 3

Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 1

3 + y + 2y = 9

Combine the like terms

3 + 3y = 9

3y = 9 - 3

On solving,

3y = 6

y = 2

Thus the value of the y-coordinate is 2
