First we will make 3 1/2 to improper fraction: [tex]3 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{7}{2} [/tex] Then:[tex] \frac{7}{2}- \frac{2}{3} * \frac{7}{2}= \frac{7}{2} - \frac{14}{6} = \frac{21}{6}- \frac{14}{6} = \frac{7}{6}=1 \frac{1}{6} [/tex]
Answer: 1 1/6 yards.
