Answer: (B)

(x – 5)² + 3(x – 5) + 9 = 0

x² - 10x + 25 + 3x - 15 + 9 = 0

x² - 7x - 16 = 0

x =  \frac{7 +  \sqrt{(-7)^2-4(1)(-16)} }{2}  or x = \frac{7 - \sqrt{(-7)^2-4(1)(-16)} }{2}  

x =  \frac{7 + 3i \sqrt{3} }{2}  or  x = \frac{7 - 3i \sqrt{3} }{2}
