In the play The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the villain. She is a liar and a manipulator, and her only purpose is to achieve her revenge due to her jealousy. She is also presented as the main reason why the scare about witches in Salem begins. Abigail begins by accusing people of devil-worshipping in order to get back at Proctor and his family. She is the first one to mention it. However, the hysteria that this leads to eventually culminates in nineteen people being sent to their deaths.
