2(x+1)=38 I would just like to check my answer for this problem. I think x equals 16. But I would like to clarify

There are two methods to do this:

1. 2(x + 1) = 38

2*x + 2*1 = 38 (Expand the bracket)

2x + 2 = 38

2x = 36 (Subtract 2 from both sides)

x = 18 (Divide each side by 2)

2. 2(x + 1) = 38

(x + 1) = 19 (Divide each side by 2)

x = 18 (Subtract 1 from each side)

x=18
