quotient of number and 3 decreased by 121 is -164
change them to equations

121 - [tex] \frac{n}{3} [/tex] = - 164
- [tex] \frac{n}{3} [/tex] = -285
- n = -855
n = 855

check:
121 - [tex] \frac{855}{3} [/tex] = -164
121 - 285 = -164
-164 = -164
