Climate zones. Based on latitude and solar radiation, the Earth can be divided into three main areas of climate types: Tropics - between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn; warm/hot. Temperate - north and south of the tropic lines to the Arctic Circles; warm and cool.
