x3+x2+kx-2 And (x-1) is a factor

so,

Substitute +1 in places of only x

(1)*3+(1)*2+k*(1)-2

3+2+k-2

5+k-2

3+k Now, as (x-1) is a factor Equate 3+k to Zero

3+k=0

k=-3
