Glucose transporter proteins in the liver do not require the presence of insulin to facilitate the uptake of glucose. However, insulin does stimulate the initial step in the glycolytic pathway in the liver. Therefore in the hepatocytes, insulin most like help in glucose uptake by decreasing the intracellalilar glucose. This can lead into an increased uptake of glucose to maintain the cellular concentration of glucose.
