What was the reasoning behind james madison's opposition to the policies of his former ally alexander hamilton?

Madison believed that Hamilton's economic plans would undermine republican values.
He thought states should charter banks that could issue money. Madison and Jefferson also believed that the Constitution did not give the national government the power to establish a bank.
